worldwide, called FRUITLOGISTICA. New products, machinery and especially new varieties were presented at this edition, which represents a novelty for the industry.
Meda Cherry is participating in this global event and in this context it presented at its stand the new cherry varieties from the genetic program developed in California and selected in the USA and Chile by Viverosur.
This program has become known in the country for having early varieties with good post-harvest performance; one of them, Meda Rex, which is reaching the Asian market with very good quality and price reports.
This year, the Meda programme has been launched in Europe, where new varieties are being presented to the European industry, in order to meet the needs of the industry seeking quality varieties such as Kordia, but from 20 to 10 days earlier than said variety, which fills a space that is not well covered today with large-calibre, firm, Brix and productive fruit.
For the fair in Germany, Meda Cherry sent boxes of Meda Bull cherries (IVU 104) by sea. These cherries were harvested in Chile 60 days ago and it is striking to see cherries in Berlin at this time of year, with a fresh appearance, green pedicels, great firmness and good size.
"It seems that these varieties have an incredible post-harvest," says Giampaolo Dal Pane, partner of the company Innovation Fruit, who works with this project in Europe and who explains to his visitors the benefits and differences of these varieties with respect to traditional ones.
«We have had many visits from different countries, but the visits from Chilean companies that see our star fruit as a country present in Berlin, where it is the only fresh cherry that can be seen at this fair, have been important. concluded Alejandro Navarro, director of Viverosur and manager of the Meda project at a global level.
