The assessment was made based on the first part of the season, prior to the Chinese New Year, by two representatives from cherry exporting companies located in China.
Our correspondents in China spoke with Gonzalo Rubilar, Regional Director for Asia of Tutti Fruit and with Braulio Díaz, Market Manager of Fruit Color (Gesex China).
When asked about the overall balance of the season, Gonzalo Rubilar indicated that “It was good, both in terms of prices and logistics. It improved considerably compared to the pandemic years, so one could expect this to continue in the following years.”.
On the other hand, Braulio Díaz emphasized the various varieties that took over the markets during the campaign.
“This season was much better than expected. Lapins took Santina's prices and remained stable, even in the last few days, the 2 in 1 boxes went up quite a bit. Regina and Kordia arrived in good condition and sold very well.", the representative of Fruit Color initially stated.
Finally, and along the same lines, and according to Díaz, the current campaign was even better than pre-COVID.
“A lot of volume was able to be moved daily and prices did not fall as they do in other seasons. The only downside was the low demand for XL and J in the last 10 days before the Chinese New Year.”.
It should be noted that, for professionals, prices during the 2022-23 campaign were not so bad.
