River Valley Fruit's experience using Top Down for cherries

River Valley Fruits in Washington packs and ships cherries, apples, and pears and is well known for the high quality of the fruit it brings to market. With a focus on continuous improvement, in 2023 the River Valley Fruit team implemented Hectre’s computer vision AI solution, Spectre Top Down for Cherries. The technology combines Hectre’s award-winning early fruit sizing AI with a simple camera setup to detect and measure large volumes of cherries upon receipt, quickly and accurately.

Seth Gifford, IT Manager at River Valley Fruit, shares his experience:

“The addition of Spectre Top Down for Cherries to our technology program is already delivering exceptional results.

We have reduced our downtime in the packaging process from 5 to 10 minutes per hour to virtually zero.

The large volume of reliable size data we get from Spectre Top Down for Cherries allows us to make more informed decisions about our packing activities.

We can progressively move from packing larger to smaller fruit throughout the day, minimizing line disruption, conveyor downtime, and packing. This is a critical efficiency gain for a high-volume business like ours.

Adopting Spectre Top Down for Cherries has significantly improved our operation and is another example of the focus on operational excellence we have at River Valley Fruits.”
