Fruit Expo 2023, an international trade fair that will take place in Guangzhou, China, will bring together the most relevant players in the fruit industry and is presented as a perfect opportunity for Chilean fruit companies to learn about and access the Chinese market.
The Asoex Cherry Committee will be present at the event and in this context we spoke with its executive director, Claudia Soler.
What is the relevance of this event for Chilean and South American companies?
«As far as Chile and its fruits, especially cherries, are concerned, the International Fruit Expo is an important event, as it is organized by two relevant players in the movement of fresh fruits within China, namely the CFNA (China Chamber of Commerce of I/E of Foodstuffs) and the China Fruit Marketing Association (CFMA), which focuses on the import and export business. While the CFNA includes the main importers and exporters of domestic fruits. Each of these organizations represents a significant group of partners throughout China.
«Furthermore, this fair, which used to take place in Beijing, is now held in Guangzhou, the main port and city of entry for Chilean fruit in China, and for imported fruit in general.. Furthermore, the date on which it takes place also allows for participation in other important events such as Asia Fruit Logistica.
What benefits could this fair have for cherry producers or suppliers?
«These types of events are always positive because they allow for the establishment of direct relationships with buyers, distributors, retailers and fruit importers. Furthermore, since representatives from wholesale markets and other areas within China also participate, it helps to promote, for example, a greater presence of Chilean cherries in second and third-tier cities, where we have also seen growing opportunities for consumption.»
Does Asoex plan to launch the cherry season at this event? Or any other activities or meetings planned?
«During our participation in this fair we want to take advantage of the opportunity to highlight the start of the cherry season, meet with representatives and partners of the organizations that organize the event, meet with the trade and with relevant actors in the distribution and logistics chain.«.
Are there Chilean companies that have already confirmed their participation in Asoex?
«We are in the process of coordination, so we will have more information on this later., concluded Claudia Soler.
