China to lift quarantines for incoming travelers starting January 8

Despite the daily increase in Covid-19 infections in China following the lifting of the strictest measures, the National Health Commission of China (NHC) announced on Monday, December 26, that as of January 8, the infectious disease will be downgraded from Class A to Class B, thereby further eliminating existing restrictions.

One of the most relevant measures that will benefit the cherry industry is the lifting of
mandatory quarantine for those entering the country and for COVID-19 patients, in accordance with the Quarantine and Border Health Law of the People's Republic of China.

Additionally, the NHC noted that “daily epidemic information will no longer be released.”

Measures began to be relaxed in the Asian country following riots and protests, leading authorities to abandon their strict "zero-COVID" policy.

The new announcements come amid speculation about rising cases and suspected deaths from Covid-19; however, the latest update on the National Health Commission (NHC) website indicated 4,128 new infections and no deaths.
