Giacovelli opts for the most advanced electronics from TOMRA Food and Icoel for its premium cherries
The Italian company is one of the largest cherry producers in the country and started the 2022 season with a new Invision optical sorter2 TOMRA Food at its Bari plant. Until the previous year, it had been using manual sorting, but in order to better adapt to demand, it decided to invest in TOMRA technology.
Anna Giacovelli, daughter of the company's founders, summed up the benefits of working with the new sorter: “We have improved in diameter selection and quality of the final product: we can now achieve much more precise calibration. The machine learns from us every day about the complications and even the advantages of each cherry variety, and detects defects to achieve the highest quality final product.”
Carlos Eyheralde, Chilean agronomist and head of quality control at Giacovelli, spoke about his experience with Invision2 “This machine is different. It comes much closer to achieving a clean and homogeneous final product. I particularly value the quality of its electronics, its sensors and the precision of the optical cameras in charge of detecting problems, both physical and internal to the fruit. Everything is managed mechanically and electronically, even when the cherries enter the line, and the entire process is extremely smooth.”
Finally, Anna Giacovelli explained the reasons why she recommends investing in TOMRA solutions: “We are fully convinced that investing in technology and automation is key.
