Equi-Sun, Vadpagro's product ideal for reducing climatic stress in the pre- and post-harvest of cherry trees

According to Victor Donoso, this is a product with permanence and protection of 30 days in the plant, from its application, thanks to its components and technology.

Sunscreens arrived in Chile just over 20 years ago, with the purpose of helping plants withstand the high temperatures that occur in the southern hemisphere during the months of November, December, January, February and March, when they are exposed to greater radiation and therefore to thermal and radiative stress, which can generate consequences of water stress.

To address these types of problems, Equi-Sun, a liquid sunscreen from Spain, burst onto the market in 2019. It features the latest research and development technology from the Deygest Laboratory and the credentials of the Faculty of Biochemistry of the University of Barcelona.

We spoke about this product and its benefits with Víctor Donoso, founding manager of the company Vadpagro, who is familiar with the benefits of this sunscreen, which is classified as a sun filter and not a sunblock.

“The Equi-Sun label presents it as an anti-cracking sunscreen. Also, this product can be applied together with biostimulants, insecticides and fungicides. It can be mixed with other products, but compatibility tests are recommended,” said Donoso.

The founding manager of Vadpagro added: “In Chile today there are just over 40 sunscreens, classified into blockers and filters, but Equi-Sun It is the only liquid sunscreen in the country that lasts up to 30 days from its application, comparing it with all the technical sheets for sunscreens that exist in Chile."

Víctor Donoso also referred to the production periods in which it is advisable to use Equi-Sun: “You can apply it in pre-harvest to reduce the risk of cracking, since the sum of amino acids and low molecular weight polysaccharides favors the formation of pectins, which are the main elastic and porous component of the cell wall, reducing internal pressure and cracking; also to provide physiological acclimatization due to a condition of high temperature and radiation that can cause sunburn in more exposed fruit and late harvests from December onwards, as well as I can use it during the post-harvest of cherry trees, to protect bud differentiation. All these protections are achieved because Equi-Sun is a very complete product that contains amino acids from enzymatic hydrolysis, starches, celluloses, sugars, other polysaccharides and antioxidants based on carotenoid pigments, tannins and polyphenols; it is a zero-waste product, that is, I apply it today and I can harvest tomorrow.”

Finally, Vadpagro highlighted the comparative advantages of the product:  “The real advantage of Equi-Sun is that it is tested, proven and validated by several consultants and is present in some of the exporters' programs; in addition, the final result of the application is visible, especially when you go to check the plant during the month of March and you realize that it is active and continues working. Or, when there is talk of sunstroke and I see if I have a greater or lesser impact, as well as I can see if I have a greater or lesser incidence in splitting or cracking,” Donoso concluded.
