This Friday will see the first and most significant rainfall event of the year, affecting the central part of the country. Strong gusts of wind are expected to occur in the Maule region during the night on Friday.
«According to weather systems, this frontal system is associated with an atmospheric river, which is a long cloud tunnel that is connected to the tropical zone that is loaded with a lot of humidity, water vapor, which makes it extremely rainy at times; this frontal system is expected to intensify. tonight, Friday, with winds of 50 and up to 60 kilometers per hour, both in the area inside, Curicó, Talca, Linares, Parral, as in the coastal area; This frontal system is the first and most important of the last four months, it will be short, it will last only until Sunday morning and it is expected that by Sunday afternoon it will be clear and that next week temperatures will drop.", explained Patricio González, Agroclimatologist and CITRA professor, Utalca.
After the precipitation, high humidity, fog and temperatures around 2ºC, 3ºC minimum and 16ºC, 17ºC maximum are expected.
«Regarding what is coming in winter and according to what we have analyzed, the climate models are going to have these characteristics, one or two days of rain, very intense, sometimes with wind, but they will be, in some way, followed by days of good weather, 4-5 days in which there will be no rain, rather there will be frost; in May, June and July we also expect frost, temperatures below zero degrees Celsius and, obviously the cycle will be two or three days with precipitation, then 4-5 days with good weather, very cold, very humid, frost, to then resume precipitation again, which will give a rather atypical winter; the El Niño event should not generate a greater amount of rain, because it will be reported late, June-July, rather it should affect spring", added Patricio Gonzalez.
It is estimated that between the months of May and August the central zone, especially the Maule region, Curicó specifically, will once again end up with a rainfall deficit.
As for the frontal system on Friday and Saturday, specialists recommend taking special care with the wind, which will be quite intense.
