The regional capital of Ñuble will be the epicenter of organic agriculture between March 17 and 19, where national and international experts in the field will meet, along with suppliers and producers, at the Expo Agro Orgánica Ñuble Fair, which will take place in Plaza Santo Domingo in Chillán. This was announced this morning by the Regional Governor, Óscar Crisóstomo, together with the founder of Agricultura Orgánica Agroecológica, AOA Chile, Rodrigo Rojas, who, accompanied by regional councilors Alberto Jarpa, Iter Stuardo, Arnoldo Jiménez and Sergio Inostroza, valued the event that comes at a very relevant time for farmers in the region.
The fair will be completely free and will feature a packed programme with more than fifteen different activities, talks, symposia, stands with organic products from national and international manufacturing companies, cooperatives, organic farmers and a live cooking show.
Governor Crisóstomo, along with extending the invitation to the community to participate in the event, recalled that “the Ñuble Region has been characterized during this time by making a transition to the organic agricultural world and that has allowed our producers to have a very different seal, and in this framework we want to continue promoting the sustainability of our region. That is why we are supporting, as a Regional Government, the organization of the Organic Agricultural Expo that will take place between March 17 and 19, an opportunity for our producers to be present.”
The highest regional authority added that this fair takes place in a special context, "we are in the middle of an emergency due to forest fires, which in the Ñuble Region have affected producers and this opens up a range of possibilities for our producers."
For his part, Rodrigo Rojas, organizer of the event, thanked the sponsors and the support of the Regional Government in promoting the Expo, and said that the activity “comes with a very interesting program for small farmers and consumers, in which they will be able to see how organic agriculture programs are being worked on in other countries, especially in Brazil, where a program managed by the State has been in place for 10 years so that farmers can be certified, which is a bottleneck in Chile for marketing.” In addition, Rojas said, “some supplies will be delivered to those affected by the fires so that they can improve their soils based on what is needed, which is a lot of organic matter.”
As Vice President of the Agriculture and Water Resources Commission, the Regional Councillor, Iter Stuardo, highlighted that “the Regional Government is taking this initiative, because knowing our territory, there are many agroecological groups already formed in the Ñuble Region, we have them in Coelemu, in Quirihue, in San Nicolás, and these groups will value that the Regional Government leads this initiative”.
At the official launch of the Ñuble Organic Agro Expo, the mayors of Yungay, Rafael Cifuentes, and Ñiquén, Manuel Pino, were also present, along with the acting directors of SAG, Gloria Cuevas, and ProChile, Cristian Pavéz.
