Carlos Tapia, a specialist advisor on cherry trees, welcomed Valeria Lepe, an advisor and consultant specialising in nutrition in fruit species, to address a topic of great relevance for the production processes that are currently in full development.

Around 200 spectators participated simultaneously via Zoom, Facebook and YouTube in the second session of Smartcherry Open 2022. On this occasion, the cherry specialist advisor, Carlos Tapia, received Valeria Lepe, an Agricultural Engineer specializing in nutrition in fruit species, to discuss the topic of "How to improve the efficiency of the nutritional strategy in cherry orchards?"

“I think it was a very pleasant conversation. This is the way of working, sharing ideas, and the result has to be one, which is the implementation of the forms at the garden level.”, said Valeria Lepe about this edition of the event. “We have to think that the quality of the fruit is produced in the orchard. Therefore, we must make the maximum effort to implement nutritional programs to the extent that resources allow, but we must do some things that are essential, such as calcium and potassium. We will have to do without some of them due to budget, but we must be confident that the current situation will pass and that we will then be able to give the orchard 'complete food' (sic)”, he added.

This time, the event was broadcast on Smartcherry's YouTube channel, as well as on Facebook and Zoom. On the latter platform, subscribed participants were able to ask questions to the protagonists. There were a total of about 200 simultaneous viewers, which are added to the other 200 views that the YouTube channel has achieved since yesterday, Thursday 4th.

The host, Carlos Tapia, was satisfied with the outcome of this session, praising the content covered: “I am very happy. We were able to discuss all the issues we had on the agenda. We are on time to make decisions about this conversation with Valeria and I think that, in addition, we share many technical aspects. One continues to learn from her as a nutrition specialist, and what we try to do is to bring it down to earth and apply it to cherry production and to specialists in other species.”

Finally, Avium's CTO added: “We invite you to the next session on September 7, where we will have as a guest Patricio González, an Agroclimatologist from the University of Talca. On this occasion we will talk about his vision of climate change, water availability and the effects of some imbalances on fruit growing.”
