For the second consecutive year, the Corteva team met with the technical team of Avium, a company led by the specialist advisor in cherry production, Carlos Tapia. In this context, we spoke with Corteva, who gave us more details about the interesting work day.
What was the purpose of the meeting?
«The objective of this meeting was to share with the Avium team our portfolio of cherry trees, discussing together the best positioning for each of our tools within a program where we prioritize the best productive, economic and sustainable result over time. In addition, to present new tools that are added to our product range, such as the active soil herbicide “Granite®️” and biological products such as “Capirel®️” and “Utrisha®️”», said Constanza Lozano, Market Developer Crop Protection VII Northern Region.
What were the main topics covered?
«We started by evaluating the season from a commercial and phytosanitary point of view. We reviewed strategies for weed control, diseases such as botrytis and alternaria, thrips control, Drosophila suzukii, white bugs and moths. And we ended the meeting by talking about opportunities for working together as technical teams for this season,» explained Javier Solar, Product Manager for Insecticides and Fungicides for Chile and Argentina.
Jorge Grau, Commercial Director for Corteva Chile and Western Argentina, Javier Solar, Product Manager for insecticides and fungicides, Alejandro Toro, Technical Manager for Corteva Agriscience, and the zonal managers Carolina López (Colchagua), Constanza Lozano (Maule Norte) and Ricardo Godoy (Maule Norte) participated in the meeting.
Avium was represented by its founder and Technical Director, Carlos Tapia, as well as the Consulting, R&D and Communications teams.
What is the outcome of the meeting? «Definitely very positive; update of the surface, production and export, analysis of productive areas, challenges for cultivation. We agreed on support for new registration, and development of new technologies such as Granite®️ new option of alternating active soils and development with more superficial rooting patterns such as Maxma 14 and Gisela, Utrisha N®️ in weaker cultivars/patterns evaluating a positioning from jacket fall. Interest in evaluating Sosdia®️ for stress situations (water, thermal, nutritional) together with Utrisha N®️», said Alejandro Toro, Technical Manager Corteva Agriscience.
What proposals and/or products does Corteva have for the new cherry season?
«Our company's line always goes for innovation, respect and concern for those who produce and consume food. From this point of view, our commitment goes hand in hand with solutions such as Fontelis®️, a highly effective fungicide for applications in flowering and pre-harvest, even in adverse conditions for the main diseases in cherry trees such as gray and black rot, both of which have a high productive impact. During June, we will launch Utrisha N®️, a nitrogen optimizer with a technology capable of supplying the plant with an inexhaustible source of this nutrient, capturing it from the atmosphere. Another biological tool is Capirel®️, a biological controller of coleopteran soil larvae», explained Carolina López, Market Developer Crop Protection VII Northern Region.
«We have a robust and large portfolio for the control of Drosophila suzukii such as Success®️, Entrust®️ and Delegate®️, which are respectful of beneficial fauna and the environment, with wide tolerances and short deficiencies. In addition to TwinGuard®️ and Closer®️ to deal with situations of pressure from whitefly and San Jose scale. We are launching a new residual herbicide for cherry trees, Granite®️, which has a broad spectrum of control of broad- and narrow-leafed weeds, annual and biennial, as difficult to control as conyza, carrot, mallow, nettle, ryegrass, among others», concluded Alejandro Toro, Technical Manager Corteva Agriscience.
