Chile has exported more than 200 thousand tons so far this season

According to Asoex, Chile is expected to export a record 447,000 metric tons of cherries this season, i.e. 25% more than last season. This, with a Chinese New Year 10 days earlier than in 2022, could be a big problem, however the cherry harvest was concentrated in less time than last season and, in addition, logistics have worked without major problems.

In this context, and with the aim of helping cherry distributors and wholesalers, the Marketing Coordinator of Asoex, Freya Huang, gave an online conference to more than a thousand Produce Report listeners on December 23. According to the aforementioned media, Charif Christian Carvajal, Marketing Director of ASOEX for Europe and Asia, also participated in this event.

As of December 22, Chile is estimated to have exported 206,713 metric tons of fresh cherries, twice as much as the same period last year; of these exports, 951 metric tons were destined for China.

For this season, 50 ships will transport fresh Chilean cherries to different parts of the world. 39 of them Cherry Express and 11 regular ships.

As every season, Asoex is working on a series of initiatives to promote Chilean cherries abroad, mainly in China, which will last until the Spring Festival holiday in China.

Under the slogan “a little red, a little luck” Asoex links cherries with the color red in the Asian country, as both attributes symbolize good fortune in Chinese culture. The campaigns are being carried out through social networks, with images in emblematic sectors of China and also in retail, where the Chilean cherry industry will cooperate with 15 supermarket chains.

Promotional campaigns have also been carried out in wholesale markets and enthusiasm for the Chilean red fruit will continue to be promoted in Guangzhou, Shanghai, Baoding, Chengdu, Qingdao, Guiyang and Changsha.

According to Produce Report, the Chilean Cherry Committee “once again reinforced the confidence in Chilean cherries among traders. Carvajal emphasized that the majority of Chilean cherries exported to China are supplied by member companies of the Chilean Cherry Committee, which guarantees high product quality. Logistics efficiency has also been further improved for this season, which also leads to top-quality cherries. It is also reported that members of the Chilean Cherry Committee are optimistic about post-Spring Festival sales and actively support sales during the winter period by investing heavily in export promotions.”
