Taking advantage of its participation in the recent Global Cherry Summit, CAPCI undertook a technical tour of the regions of Ñuble, Maule and O'Higgins where they visited different cherry orchards.

The Argentine Chamber of Integrated Cherry Producers, CAPCI, participated in the Global Cherry Summit event with an important delegation made up of Argentine businessmen and technicians. Among them, Alejandro Zimmermann, President of CAPCI, its secretary Carlos Enríquez, Gerardo Salvado, treasurer, and its Manager, Aníbal Caminiti.
“Usually, cherry producers, producers and CAPCI from Argentina usually participate in events held in Chile; we always participate in the Global Cherry Summit in particular, basically because Chile is our main reference in the production and export of cherries. One might think that we are competitors, yes, we share the same markets, we can say that we share the same opportunities, but we also share the same threats, we have the same problems, on a different scale than the Chilean cherry sector, with some particularities specific to Argentina that can differentiate us from Chile.”, Caminiti said.
During the recent cherry season, the Southern Hemisphere, comprising Chile, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, exported a total of 372,337 tons of cherries. Chile accounts for 95.71 TP3T percent of the total, while Argentina comes in second with 2.21 TP3T.
“90 percent of the cherries produced and exported in Argentina are produced in Patagonia, we are talking about Río Negro, Neuquén, Santa Cruz and Chubut, a totally different environment to that in the Chilean region, however we have many peculiarities in common and we are interested in interacting; we share Chilean advisors who come to advise us and we share a lot of information with Chilean companies with which we interact,” said Anibal Caminiti.
The CAPCI Manager also added: “As an institution, CAPCI integrates Frutas de Argentina (FdA), which is a committee of the chambers of exportable fresh fruit, which includes the Argentine Citrus Federation (FEDERCITRUS), the Argentine Chamber of Integrated Fruit Growers (CAFI) and the ABC, Argentine Blueberry Committee, and with them we make up SHAFFE (Association of Fresh Fruit Exporters of the Southern Hemisphere), where Asoex also participates, so there are many issues that unite us and we work jointly with the Chilean cherry sector.”
Technical tour of central Chile

Taking advantage of its visit to Chile to participate in the Global Cherry Summit, the Argentine Chamber of Integrated Cherry Producers, CAPCI, organized a technical tour that included three regions in central Chile.
“We organized a tour to see some establishments and management guidelines, above all we visited establishments in the area of Chillán, Curicó and Rancagua, also to compare and share information with fellow producers in Chile regarding certain guidelines that are similar in terms of management, in order to obtain quality fruit as required by international markets.”, Caminiti concluded.
In the Maule region, where they spent the most days, they visited different cherry orchards in the San Clemente and Sagrada Familia sectors.
