A few days ago, China celebrated the “Double 12” shopping holiday, which took place on December 12; it is one of the days when most purchases are made in the Asian country.
This year, according to producerreport.com, “The Double 12 holiday coincided with the arrival of the first sea shipment of Chilean cherries this season. All major Chinese e-commerce portals, including JD.com, Tmall and Pinduoduo, chose to join the Chilean Cherry Committee of the Chilean Fruit Exporters Association (ASOEX) to make fresh cherries one of their most popular online items.”

The commercial success of Chilean cherries was such that sales of the product tripled on Pinduoduo compared to the same period last year.

It is worth remembering that the first shipment of Chilean cherries by sea arrived in Hong Kong on December 9, 23 days after setting sail from Chile.
According to producerreport.com, «JD.com and representatives of the Chilean cherry industry held a joint press conference in Shanghai to celebrate the arrival. That evening, Sinar Mas Plaza near the Bund was lit up with slogans encouraging people to buy Chilean cherries from JD.com. The skyscraper’s red lights shone brightly over a festive atmosphere full of warmth and good fortune.»
Various activities were carried out to promote the sale of cherries, including live broadcasts, group purchases, influencers, etc. These had excellent results, achieving a year-on-year growth of 30% %. In addition, Christmas campaigns were added after this and in these days other promotions for New Year.
Over the next few weeks, a massive arrival of Chilean cherries to China is expected, as discounts have already begun for the celebration of the Chinese New Year, a holiday in which the greatest consumption of cherries takes place.
