Last Friday, a Field Day organized by the companies Patagonia Biotecnologia (PatBio) and Martínez y Valdivieso was held at the facilities of Agrícola Lomas del Baluarte. The event was an excellent opportunity to present the recent alliance between PatBio and Martínez y Valdivieso, as well as to listen to the presentation of the renowned specialist advisor on deciduous fruit trees, Jordi Casas.
Macarena Cruzat, from the Research and Development department of PatBio, commented: “We held the event together with Martínez and Valdivieso, and Jordi Casas gave us a comprehensive talk about the current status of the crop, new management and its future challenges, and his experience with FERTUM. For our part, we presented the origin of our algae, the management we carry out of them, and the contribution of their active compounds for the different phenological stages of the plants.”
For his part, Martín Ureta, zonal manager for the south-central region of PatBio, highlighted the importance of this meeting: “A super interesting event to be able to show how we extract our algae, the technology we use, the alliance we have with the company SICIT, which is a leader in the production of biostimulants worldwide. On the other hand, we also took advantage of the opportunity to announce the distribution alliance we signed this year with Martínez and Valdivieso, who we chose because we consider them to be leaders in national distribution and they contribute a lot in the technical part.”
Felipe Ureta, assistant manager of specialties at Martínez y Valdivieso, expressed his enthusiasm for this collaboration: “First of all, we are very happy about this new alliance with FERTUM, that they have chosen us as their distributor for their line of products, since it is a company that we have been seeing for a long time, for its line of innovation, with very powerful results thanks to its algae and the farmers are very happy. You can see by seeing the number of people who attended this activity that they are interested in continuing to enhance their crops with this type of technology.”

The event also included the valuable participation of Jordi Casas, a specialist advisor in the production of cherries and deciduous fruit trees, who shared his knowledge and experiences: “Well, we talked about a summary of the previous season, a very extreme campaign, but which ended with a rather positive taste, in general. In addition, we discussed the projection of the next season, where so far the cold is very early, but the leaves have fallen well. I think we are entering the cold well, although it is almost the beginning of winter. We also discussed the ways of measuring these cold hours, with the different models that there are, integrating them in order to draw conclusions about the load regulation, which is what impacts us the most, since this season left us with a very important lesson with respect to the calibers, since prices are being set around this item, where L and XL are left behind, the J is also greatly damaged in price, which makes us, both producers and advisors, concentrate on getting the best calibers and that started in the summer of the previous season and continues today with a very good and very precise load regulation, so that is what we must concentrate on.”
Finally, Manuel Goycolea, manager of Agrícola Lomas del Baluarte, expressed his satisfaction at hosting the event: “Making our farm available for this Field Day is a recognition of FERTUM, since I have been working with them for many years and their products have given me very good results. In addition, I have an important connection with FERTUM and deep down I like to show what their products can do in the orchards.”

This Field Day was not only a platform to share knowledge and experiences, but also to strengthen relationships and strategic alliances between participating companies, thus benefiting the entire agricultural community.
