Bioamerica held its second technical meeting moderated by Advisor Carlos Tapia, a specialist in cherry production. The event consisted of a discussion, which aimed to address different current issues regarding cherry cultivation, together with producers and exporters of the sector.
“The idea for this meeting was born in conversation with Carlos Tapia about organizing a meeting where topics related to each stage of cherry cultivation would be addressed, and on this occasion we had to talk about fruit size and growth. We invited a select group of opinion leaders, technical managers and agronomists from exporters, where the central idea was to share knowledge based on the experience that the different participants have been developing and make it available to the group, giving rise to repeating this event later addressing other related topics,” explained Cristian Ormazábal, Bioamerica Technical Zone, Seventh Region.
The discussion cycle included different technical opinions related to the phenological stages of the cherry tree, addressing physiological issues and management at each stage of the species.
“Today we also shared this conversation with Valeria Lepe, because we believe that this year is very special in terms of how to begin the implementation of nutritional programs, how to carry out the programs to meet or meet the objectives of the fruit in terms of achieving productive potential; it has been a very active conversation between producers and us who technically directed the meeting, everything was very well organized and the conversation was very enriching,” said Carlos Tapia, Technical Director of Avium.
As Carlos Tapia announced, Valeria Lepe, a specialist advisor in nutrition of fruit species, also participated in the meeting on this occasion: “It is a very pleasant format with the idea that everyone participates and comments on their doubts about the season that we are going to face with these new challenges; as I said in the meeting, things that the season is going to teach us again, some processes that are going to happen from the physiological perspective, given the changing weather conditions that we are going to suffer all spring; I think that these instances are productive, all the guests are the people who manage the technical decisions, I think they are instances to talk, I really like this idea of sharing topics, more than in the formalism of a presentation, that everyone contributes their ideas, I think that is what we have to do, in pursuit of a constructive view,” Lepe said.
Among the guests was Sebastián Rojas, Agricultural Manager of Agrícola San Clemente, who made a positive assessment of the event: “The meeting was very interesting to be able to discuss current issues this season, all the management we have to do after climatic events, which is very different from what we have been handling in recent years.”
On the same topic, we consulted Cristian Ormazábal, Zonal Manager of the Seventh Region, regarding how Bioamerica's tools will provide solutions for cherry producers, in one of the most unstable springs in the history of the crop.
“As always, we are at the forefront and concerned about the needs that are developing over the years, in an increasingly demanding fruit industry, where we are asked for better quality fruit in terms of condition and firmness. As we all know, our main market is China, which is very far away, and therefore we must arrive with very well-finished fruit. The standards have risen and as Bioamerica, we are always concerned about delivering the best tools to meet market requirements, and anticipating the future needs of our producers, concluded Cristian Ormazábal.
