At the Fruit Attraction 2023 trade fair, held last week in Madrid, Spain, TOMRA Food presented new updates and advances in its technological solutions, aimed at the food and post-harvest industry. On this occasion, they were accompanied by ICOEL, specialists in processing, calibration, internal and external quality selection, packaging and traceability of fruits and vegetables, and TOMRA's integrated business partner.
Roberto Ricci, Regional Sales Director for EMEA at Tomra Food, explained that one of the reasons for the company's success is related to its presence in different industries such as mining and recycling, an attribute that allows them to share various technologies and solutions that at the same time, can improve the food industry.
“Together with ICOEL, our integrated partner for cherries worldwide, we are presenting our splitting systems, our technology and our integrated solutions. As for our splitting system, we have new software updates for users this year, which are more user-friendly in their interface, and we are also increasing the speed of the machines. This is what we have now for the northern hemisphere, and we will also have it in the southern hemisphere next season,” he added, adding that they will soon have more news to share.

But how does TOMRA Food technology translate into help for farmers and producers?
The executive explains that the core of his technology is in the design and adaptation of food classification using sensors, which was a very important need in the past for his clients in order to detect characteristics such as size or colour, something they successfully achieved. And now the new needs are related not only to the price of the fruit, but to assigning each piece of fruit to the correct destination so that nothing is wasted. “We want to make sure that our clients’ deliveries are what their own end customers expect, something that our technology can guarantee, adding value for them.”

For his part, Bruno Stravato, General Manager of ICOEL, He shared that their mission is mainly to offer the best possible service while remaining close to their customers, so that they can provide solutions to their needs at the right time. “Today the collaboration is stronger than ever, especially in the cherry business, where we have great success. The proof of this success can be explained very well from different projects; one is the largest cherry solution in Europe, manufactured in Italy last year, and the other is the one we are installing now in Chile, and these two projects have the same equipment and technology and the same mission which is, again, to give the end customer the best solution we can and stay with them, helping them achieve the best results,” he concluded.
