Our team of correspondents provides relevant information on the ports of Shekou, Nansha and Hong Kong during week 51.
The start of the cherry season generated great expectations with the arrival of the first shipments of Chilean fruit by sea to China. Due to what has happened in the last two seasons, there was great skepticism regarding how logistics would develop in the ports; however, the first weeks have been free of complications.
Changes in Covid-19 protocols that even eliminated pallet sanitization improved response times, allowing fruit customs clearance, unloading, inspections and transfers to be fairly expedited.
The status of the main ports is detailed below:
Shekou: John Guan from the commercial department of Shekou Port confirmed to Smartcherry that it is unlikely that there will be any major changes to the health restrictions from now on, as most of them have already been removed.
Nansha: Last Thursday, the first Cherry Express ship, the Maersk Labyrinth, was received. The arrival and unloading were a complete success. After unloading, the fastest container only took one hour and 58 minutes to reach the Jiangnan Wholesale Market in Guangzhou.

Hong Kong: Logistics from the port of Hong Kong have also progressed very well, as reflected in the following photographs of the first maritime arrivals of Chilean cherries.
