During the recent cherry season, Chile exported 428 thousand tons, 161 TP3T more than during the previous campaign; the Lapins, Santina and Regina varieties represent 78 percent of the total exported.
If we talk about Lapins, it was the undisputed queen of the 2022-23 campaign, with 148 thousand tons, equivalent to 29 million boxes, which meant an increase of 20% compared to the previous year. Its participation during the last season was 36%, which confirms the growth that this variety has had during the last campaigns.
As for Santina, 110 thousand tons were shipped out of the country, equivalent to 22 million boxes; this variety showed a growth of 301 TP3T compared to the 2021-22 campaign, representing 271 TP3T of the total exported.
Regina, meanwhile, decreased by 51 TP3T in total exports compared to the previous season; a total of 63 thousand tons were sent out of Chile, equivalent to 12 million boxes. This variety represents 151 TP3T of the total exported in the 2022-23 campaign.
According to iQonsulting's 2023 Cherry Yearbook, "This variety had flavour problems in some batches in China during the previous season, which affected the variation in volume compared to the previous year."
