Our correspondents in China have gathered all the details of the first ship to arrive at its destination; it is the Seaspan Brightness, which is carrying approximately 143 containers of cherries, equivalent to 279 tons, the main varieties being Royal Dawn (48%), Santina (38%), Glen Red (4%), and Frisco (2%).
Entering week 49, the season is about to officially begin with arrivals by sea, where about 90% of the total volume transported is concentrated, taking the 2021-22 campaign as a reference.

It is worth remembering that the start of cherry exports to China, Season 2022-23, occurred with the first air arrivals at the end of October (between the 25th and 30th, week 43), with arrivals close to 42 tons, almost all directly to the retail shelves or pre-sold to be distributed through the main wholesale markets, where Guangzhou and Shanghai stand out. At the end of November, more than 6 million air kilos had been accumulated, distributed among more than 120 exporters, according to a database prepared with Fruitonline.
For this 22-23 season, according to data obtained from Produce Report, around 50 ships are expected, of which 39 are fast ships. Cherry express, and have the capacity to transport cherries by sea in scheduled transits of under 26 days to China. The main destination ports are Hong Kong, Shanghai, Yantian, Nansha, Ningbo and Qingdao.
As we have already announced on our platform, the first ship to arrive in China will be the “Seaspan Brightness” with ETA date December 9 to Hong Kong and December 11 to Yantian in the south of the country, to then call in Shanghai on December 19 and 20 in Ningbo.

As a summary of the total volume for this season, and according to the first estimate of cherries from ASOEX, the Chilean industry is projected to export a total of 89,353,878 5-kilo equivalent boxes to the world, 251 TP3T more than the previous season, and representing a total of 446,769 metric tons; in other words, the equivalent of 24,280 containers and where the large destination market in terms of volume continues to be China. Last season, the Asian power represented 881 TP3T of the total exported volume, according to data from iQonsulting.
