Innovative proposal to homogenize color and sugar is installed in cherry orchards

Tavan Chile, a company specializing in biotechnology applied to agriculture, presents SPRINT, a formula that improves the condition of the fruit naturally and without affecting the size or causing overripeness.

The organoleptic conditions of cherries are essential for obtaining good profitability. Two of the most important challenges in each season are to achieve an optimal color of the covering and accumulation of brix degrees in the fruit, both fundamental parameters for determining its quality.

For this 2023-24 season, the bet offered by Tavan Chile, a company with more than 20 years of experience in biotechnology applied to agriculture, is SPRINT.

SPRINT is a formula specially designed to accelerate the color acquisition and sugar increase processes, thus achieving a more homogeneous harvest.

“Colour, brix and firmness determine the optimal time for harvesting. Carrying out this task at the right time guarantees that the organoleptic characteristics of the fruit are the best. In addition, it significantly reduces harvest losses and provides better shelf life and quality,” explains Héctor Díaz, technical area manager for Tavan Chile.

The application of products such as SPRINT is necessary because the fruit on the tree often shows variability in its colour and ripening. The climatic irregularity of seasons such as the current one can also produce unevenness, which affects the timing and organisation of the harvest. SPRINT acts by homogenising both processes in the tree.

“In a competitive market like today's, it is key to carry out 'sweep' harvests, stagger the harvest or advance some varieties,” adds the Tavan Chile technician, recommending the application of SPRINT to achieve these objectives.

Compared to other treatments available on the market, SPRINT has significant comparative advantages. In addition to accumulating more than 10 years of experience being applied in the fields of all productive areas of Chile with optimal results, it does not require the addition of other components to achieve its objectives.

On the other hand, it does not affect the size of the fruit. It does not cause over-ripening either, since it does not influence or insist on the ethylene cycle, responsible, for example, for the degradation of pectins. In addition, various technical tests have shown that, in high doses, it allows for an earlier harvest.
