Field day tour of the most promising varieties for Chile concludes

Viveros El Tambo, one of ANA Chile®'s partner nurseries, participated in the field days held in different regions.

Last season was characterized by unusual weather patterns, including a winter with little accumulation of cold hours and rain in the central-southern region in December, which affected the volumes of the sought-after early varieties. This did not prevent them from reaffirming their quality and post-harvest yield.

Viveros El Tambo, one of ANA Chile®'s partner nurseries, participated in the field days held in different regions. At an event held on October 20 at a test block in Recoleta, Ovalle, Coquimbo Region, attendees were able to witness the potential of the Sweet Aryana®, Nimba, Sweet Gabriel® and Nipama varieties compared to the control variety Brooks. Specifically, the Nimba cv. variety showed an advance of at least five days compared to Brooks under similar conditions.

On the other hand, on November 30 in Sagrada Familia, Maule Region, the Sweet Aryana®, Sweet Lorenz® and Epick 16 varieties were highlighted for their ability to adapt to challenging conditions, such as a low accumulation of cold hours during the year 2023. The results of productivity, size and quality of the fruit are encouraging, thus predicting a promising future for cherry production in the region.

Likewise, Bloomfresh (formerly IFG) presented the Nebula, Cupid and Crunch varieties on October 26 in Ovalle, Coquimbo Region, which stand out for their low chilling requirements and excellent performance in specific conditions of the area. These varieties, exhibited again on November 2 at Viveros El Tambo, O'Higgins Region, before more than 120 people, show great potential to strengthen local production and expand commercial opportunities in the national and international market.

Finally, Biofrutales presented its first advanced selections on November 9 in Talhuén, commune of Ovalle. The Selection 21 stood out, a variety that could become the first cherry developed entirely in Chile by 2024. This variety, with characteristics similar to the well-known Rainier, shows potential to meet the demands of the demanding international market.

These events represent a significant step towards diversification and innovation in the cherry industry in Chile, providing new opportunities for producers and contributing to the sustainable growth of the sector.
