Baydir Services, and its Agricultural Monitoring Service (SAM) for San José Scale (Diaspidiotus perniciosus) in pome and stone fruits, has collected important information, corresponding to the start of the 2020-2021 monitoring season.
The main objective is to be able to indicate to producers the most appropriate time to carry out applications against the San José scale pest. An alternative carried out by Bayer is Admiral 10 EC. Product containing as active ingredient Pyriproxifen, a pyridine compound that acts as a mimic of the juvenile hormone, inhibiting the metamorphosis of immature states, mainly those belonging to the first stages of development. According to this and according to the table shown below, if we add the percentages of juvenile states present, the presence of more than one can be seen. “80% of states susceptible to control by Admiral 10 EC”, these susceptible states should remain this way during the current month and the next given the current temperatures, however we must be attentive to the increase in temperatures since this could accelerate the development of the pest. and with this reduce the percentage of states susceptible to control, for which reason it is suggested to begin with the application of the product both in pome trees and in stone fruit trees that are infected by San Jose scale (in applications in which copper needs to be incorporated, Admiral 10 EC can be mixed with Agrocopper).
The data below come from analysis of twigs corresponding to the different agroclimatic zones, thus obtaining the different predominant states of the pest:
