"We have already had many difficulties due to the rains on the farms, so now we have to face a delay that compromises cherries that need to reach the ships and destinations quickly, as never before," said the union president, Jorge Valenzuela.

Along with the effects of the rains, mainly on early cherries, as well as on orchards in bloom, Fedefruta is now closely observing the problem that is being generated by the failure of the Customs system since Monday, with interruptions and even a loss of support for carrying out export procedures and documentation for the departure of products, a fact that was reported by the Chilean Customs Chamber.

At this moment, directors of the Federation of Fruit Producers of Chile are testing the situation at terminals. “So far, producers say they have been able to make shipments and manage the documentation, but we have already had many difficulties due to the rains on the farms, and now we have to face a delay that compromises cherries that, as never before, need to arrive quickly to the ships and to their destinations,” said the president of Fedefruta, Jorge Valenzuela.

That is why Fedefruta and the producers are asking the National Customs Service to activate a contingency plan and share it as soon as possible, “since we have had no news or information about it," adds the leader. “We hope that this computer problem, which has been going on for quite some time, will be resolved as soon as possible, because if delays are generated, it could affect the condition of fruit that was already very difficult to harvest, not to mention packaging.”
