At xpd global fresh we know there are various risks involved in the export of cherries – for example, damage to the fruit, connection losses or cargo that, for various reasons, could not be transported.
Months of work in preparation in the orchard, packaging and marketing can be compromised by a slip in the logistics plan.
One of the details that requires more attention in the cherry export process is “customs clearance” at destination.
Given the short air transit time available, we only have a few hours to complete the paperwork correctly, so it is essential that the procedures are completely clear and simplified.
Like you best strategic ally in perishables, we provide some Recommendations fundamentals for exporting cherries without vulnerabilities in the documentation:
- Make sure the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) database is updated with the information provided by your client (the exporter) for the 2023-24 season.
The phytosanitary document will be generated at the airport based on the information previously entered and cannot be modified after the cargo has been dispatched from the plant.
It is recommended to carry out this process before the start of the season in coordination with the xpd global team at the airport. - Validate, through your logistics developer, that the signature of the exporter's legal representative is updated and confirmed by the certifying office of origin, as well as by its subsidiary at the airport.
- Verify that the information in the documentation, such as the shipping instructions and the consignee data entered on the air waybill, matches the details in the phytosanitary certificate, the SAG forms and the export invoice.
- Send the shipping instructions clearly and accurately.
Recommendations for the issuance of phytosanitary products
- In case of loss of the document (if it is not electronic), a notarized letter must be issued and sent to SAG Santiago for reissue.
- If the phytosanitary certificate needs to be modified (if it is not electronic), return the incorrect certificate to the government entity at the destination. Notify the SAG in Santiago for the subsequent issuance of a Phytosanitary Cancellation-Replacement Certificate, subject to SAG waiting times.
Recommendations on the issuance of certificates of origin
- If the certificate is digital and needs a correction, this can be done by email.
- If the certificate is not digital and needs correction, issue a reissue letter, which must be signed by the exporter. Then, arrange for the incorrect document to be returned to the Chamber of Commerce office.
Recommendations for preparing the AWB
- In case of problems in the preparation of the Air Waybill (AWB), request a Charge Correction Notice (CCA) from the corresponding carrier, so that they can notify their counterparty at the destination and/or transit points.
- If you require special conditions, such as a Handling or Transit Certificate, be sure to notify us in advance.
The document process is a fundamental part of the export process so that the entire coordination of months is effective. Thus, the cherries will arrive at their destination in perfect condition and can be consumed immediately.
