We decided to publish an extra weather report, due to the impact of the atmospheric river that is visible and that will begin to show its effects from this Friday, especially in the central and southern areas of Chile, with episodes of rain, as well as beginning in May, episodes of frost that will be present on a recurring basis, especially in agricultural areas, which can fall by
below 0°C.
Below is the specific information for each area:
SOUTH ZONE: A rainy storm associated with the impact of an atmospheric river in the area will cause possible rainfall accumulations of over 100mm, mainly along the coast from Concepción to Valdivia, so it is highly recommended to take the necessary precautions in the face of this potential storm.
Towards the valleys, potential accumulations are estimated between 50 and 100 mm. Another important condition will be the winds, which can occur with gusts of 40 to 70 kph.
The isotherm will be between 1,500 and 2,000 meters. From Monday onwards, the dominant condition will be low temperatures, associated with the presence of the cold air mass, so it will be a week with recurrent morning frosts.
CENTRAL ZONE: Effects of the atmospheric river will also be present in the central zone, waiting
that rain began on Friday night and continued until midday on Sunday.
Potential accumulations are estimated from 40 to 70 mm between O'Higgins and Biobío and from 15 to 35 mm between the RM and Valparaíso.
ISOTHERM 0° BETWEEN 2900 TO 3100 METERS.
Beginning in May, frost will be present on a recurring basis, especially in agricultural areas, where temperatures may drop below 0°C.
NORTHERN ZONE (Coquimbo – Atacama): Generally stable conditions. Mornings with minimum values between 3° and 6°C in agricultural areas and maximum values between 25° and 29°C.
Constant fog in the coastal area at least until Sunday. The atmospheric river will not have any effects in the northern area, so conditions will be mostly stable.
In summary:
-Atmospheric river affecting the central and southern areas, starting on Thursday in the south and starting on Friday night in the central area.
-High accumulations in the coastal area of the south of the country.
-Very high 0° isotherm in the central zone.
-Morning frosts in agricultural areas next week, from the south to the central part of the country.
