New varieties: ANA Chile offered technical advice on the ground

Producers of the Nimba cv., Pacific Red cv., Sweet Aryana®, Sweet Gabriel® and Frisco cv. cherry varieties were invited by ANA Chile to a technical consultation conducted by Walter Massman, where they were able to learn about the advances in the technical management of these varieties to achieve the best fruit potential, in addition to sharing their own experiences with the group and clarifying doubts.

The day had two instances: The first part of the consultancy was carried out in a field of Macaya and Waak Ltda., in El Huique, Colchagua. The cherry advisor Walter Massman, together with Lorena Pinto - Head of Pomegranate & Cherry Product at ANA Chile - presented a suggested technical management proposal to achieve the best fruit potential of these varieties. The group was able to see the Sweet Aryana® variety in the field, established in Colt in 2020, to continue with the Nimba cv.; Pacific Red cv., Sweet Gabriel® varieties, established in 2021 on the same rootstock. In this field, all the plants were trained in a V shape as a way of diluting vigor.

In its second part, the consultancy continued at Agro Vic – Hacienda Colchagua, where producers of Frisco cv. shared their experiences and were able to clarify technical doubts, in an open and enriching conversation. In this field, a plantation of Frisco cv. on Colt from 2018 was shown, which Walter Massman currently advises, whose greatest challenge is to reduce and control vigor to balance the tree and increase the quality of the fruit, reducing competition with the growth of the shoot.

ANA Chile intends to continue this type of advice to producers who have acquired new varieties, in order to support them technically at the beginning of the production process. Periodic advisory meetings are planned during the main management milestones, which must be taken into account to achieve the potential of the varieties in terms of their production and fruit quality.
