In order to increase the development of irrigation works for the benefit of small-scale agriculture, the National Irrigation Commission (CNR) published the bases of the “First competition for small-scale agriculture and food security”, corresponding to the 2023 Competition Calendar, incorporating mechanisms that will facilitate the presentation of new projects by beneficiaries and consultants of the Irrigation Law.
The Executive Secretary of the CNR, Wilson Ureta, explained that it is a “a new and innovative competition that is part of the Small-scale Agriculture Program, which the government has considered very necessary to promote in order for small farmers to improve their quality of life by accessing bonuses that allow them to develop irrigation projects with water efficiency, promoting in a participatory manner a fair and sustainable rural development.”
Meanwhile, the Head of the Irrigation Promotion Department, Tania Fernández, highlighted that due to the forest fires affecting various regions of the country “We have decided to extend the application period so that those interested can learn, together with the Law's consultants, about the new mechanisms that have been incorporated into the Small Agriculture Program and that we believe represent a milestone that will allow us to have better projects for the benefit of small agriculture.”
Projects under the so-called “No. 201-2023”, which has a total of $2 billion, must be submitted from April 3, 2023 until 11:59 p.m. on April 25, 2023 (end of application).
