The Wapri Farm, located in the Los Niches sector of the Curicó commune, was the place chosen by Syngenta to carry out its first field day of 2023. This event focused on cherry trees in the post-harvest period, since during this period key physiological processes occur with the production of the following season. Around 100 producers attended this activity.
Agustín Castro, zonal agroAMIGO of the Maule Region, considered this activity as an important milestone for his area. It is our first day in the field of the year, and we review how to care for the cherry trees, in a stage that we “frequently” tend to neglect.
For his part, one of the guest speakers, Óscar Carrasco, professor of fruit growing at the University of Chile and fruit advisor, described the activity developed by Syngenta as a great contribution to entrepreneurs and producers.

Regarding his participation during the field day, the professor from the University of Chile pointed out that, “on this occasion it was necessary to see the soil, through test pits, evaluate the growth of roots, current volume of these, check soil humidity and the possible presence of pests or diseases. We also reviewed pruning, because it is necessary to improve light penetration to the lower parts of the tree, specifically, in vigorous orchards.”

In turn, Hector Garcia, general manager of Diagnofruit, referred to the event as a spectator, arguing that, probably, the post-harvest of cherry trees is one of the activities that requires the most care, within the crop, and especially, cherry because it has a very long post-harvest. Learning about tree care is important for the producer, to make a crop profitable and sustainable over time.”
Finally, José Peredo, manager of Fundo Wapri Marengo, in his capacity as owner, thanked Syngenta for having considered the Wapri orchard for holding its first field day.
“As a company, we always try to be open to the community, to show our fields, these instances are a learning experience for everyone. Furthermore, the fact that Syngenta considers us as a company and as a field means that we are doing things well,” concluded Peredo.
