Liaoning Port Group's Cherry Express Line Successfully Completed Maiden Voyage

On January 11, Maersk's ship "Tinos" successfully arrived at Dayaowan Wharf in Dalian. The ship was loaded with 616 containers of Chilean cherries.

This not only represents the opening of a new chapter of comprehensive cooperation between Yidu Group and Maersk, but also marks the official launch of the Maersk Refrigerated Express at the Port of Dalian. It also declares the complete success of the maiden voyage of the South American Cherry Express.

Maersk chose the Port of Dalian as an important hub port for the Chilean Cherry Express, mainly due to the continuous optimization of the customs clearance environment, terminal infrastructure and logistics support services at the Port of Dalian, along with the help of a series of efficient customs services.

At this event, which partly marked Week 2 of 2023, leaders from the Dalian Municipal Government, the Liaoning Provincial Department of Transport, the Department of Commerce, the Dalian Municipal Transport Bureau, the Commerce Bureau, the Municipal Government Port Bureau, the Bonification Area Management Committee, Customs, Maritime Affairs, Border Inspection and other units, the Chilean Fruit Exporters Association and its subsidiary Comité Cerezas, national agents, e-commerce platform distributors, shipping operators and other industry representatives were present.

Javier Rodriguez, representative of the Chilean company Exportadora del Sur, praised the location and its logistics, also highlighting the ties that have been established in the Asian country, arguing that "five years ago, the company began to export a small quantity of cherries to the Chinese market and, since then, it has grown every year, gradually establishing links with national imports. The port of Dalian will greatly promote the development of Chilean cherries in the northern market."

Rodriguez added: “All cherries on the market are transported through the ports of Guangzhou and Shanghai. The opening of the Dalian Express Line will greatly reduce the time it takes to transport cherries to the market.”

In the same vein, Hu Li, a buyer from Jingdong Fresh Cherry Project Department, said that regarding the opening of the new market in Dalian Port, freight costs are relatively high and further market development is facing greater difficulties. "The opening of the South America-Dalian Cherry Express line will promote the distribution of more imported fruit items to the northern market through Dalian Port," Hu Li concluded.
