How to choose a cover for fruit trees?

The agricultural industry is becoming more and more demanding; producing good quality fruit, good caliber, advancing and increasing the productivity of orchards is the challenge that producers must face season after season. Added to this are the climatic variables, which, although it is possible to know certain events in advance, are impossible to manage without the help of tools and technologies designed to protect and optimize crops.

Taking into account this last aspect, which is crucial for agriculture, Agralia offers a wide range of agrotextiles, nets, plastics and covers, which are the result of many years of research and testing to provide solutions to the agroclimatic problems faced by modern farmers.

By the way, when choosing a cover for fruit trees, it is necessary to consider several aspects. Throughout Chile and the world, there are different geographical areas with similar agroclimatic factors, but very different microclimates in each of the fields; this is the main parameter when choosing and making the decision about which cover to use and what are the objectives of its use.

Having the information on minimum and maximum temperatures, relative humidity, winds and all the climatic factors, it is possible to define the above mentioned. However, there is a second point to consider that is related to the agronomic parameters, planting frame, row spacing, height of trees or plants, plantation orientation, irrigation sectors.

What to look for when choosing?

At first glance, the covers may seem “the same”, but you have to go further and see the qualities and mechanical resistance of these, and thus, obtain better results.

To do this, the following qualities must be taken into consideration:

-Light quality; adjust the ratio between diffuse light and direct light, as needed.

-Radiation composition; adapt it as needed.

 -Thermicity.

 -Double-sided laminate.

-Support from agricultural technical teams for crop management, adjusting fertilization (NPK and other nutrients) and irrigation.

-Installation advice or instructions: unlike other systems that cost 4.6 days/ha to open or close the covers, Agricover is a technical product that does not require opening or closing depending on the handling; it is installed from the accumulation of cold hours until after the harvest, allowing, among other benefits, the reduction of post-harvest stress. They have a durability of 5 years and 6 months per season, in covers extended per year.

Agralia, a company with more than 40 years of experience in research and manufacturing of agrotextiles, recommends avoiding extreme weather conditions, excess and lack of heat and humidity, avoiding hail and rain, without causing the plant to suffer radical changes. In this context, it has Agricover available to the industry, fruit tree protection covers to protect both the fruit from the rain and the trees and foliage from hail.

This product has a state-of-the-art fabric laminated on both sides, with high resistance and durability. Among the benefits generated by the use of this type of covers are:

-Homogeneous gardens

-Quality and caliber

-Firm fruits

-Precocity

-Higher return to the producer

Agricover is supported by a top-level agricultural engineering team that has spent years researching and developing this new technology that allows crops to be protected, avoiding damage, helping to improve orchard yields, bringing in fruit early and obtaining excellent results and a greater return to the farmer on an ongoing basis.
