The event was attended by the President of Macfrut, Renzo Piraccinni, the Ambassador of Italy in Chile, Mauro Batocchi, and the presidents of Asoex and Fedefruta, Iván Marambio and Jorge Valenzuela, respectively.
This Friday, November 18, the most important fruit and vegetable fair in Italy was presented in our country; it is Macfrut 2023, a great event that this year celebrates 40 years and brings together the entire agro-industry chain.

“Macfrut is a very successful fair dedicated to the fruit and vegetable sector, which is held in Rimini, Italy, from 3 to 5 May. It is a fair with a long history, we have 40 editions and it is having a great success because it brings together business and knowledge. I think that in Chile, especially for medium-sized companies that want to diversify their markets, it is a very interesting fair. We are offering Chilean companies an extraordinary opportunity, including in the stand package all the decoration and accommodation, so we hope to have a very significant number of Chilean companies at Macfrut next year.” explained the President of Macfrut, Renzo Piraccinni.
The international fruit and vegetable fair represents the entire fruit sector, including 9 sectors: trade and production, machinery and installations, materials and packaging, cultivation machinery, greenhouses and irrigation, spices and medicinal herbs, nurseries and seeds, biosolutions, logistics and services.
Although Macfrut 2023 will be dedicated to blueberries, the 2022 version had the cherry as its symbolic fruit and this new version includes various areas related to the production and export of this red fruit.
“The last edition dedicated to cherries was an incredible success, the major cherry exporters were all there at the International Cherry Symposium and this year it will be the same with blueberries; Chile is a major producer of blueberries (…) this is a very particular fair, Macfrut is different from any other fair, at other fairs they give you a space and put people together, we bring people together People, with buyers and knowledge, this is the diversity of Macfrut,” explained the President of Macfrut.
The presentation of the fair in Chile was also attended by the Italian ambassador in our country, who highlighted the importance of this launch as a way to strengthen trade ties between both countries.

“Italy has one of the most important international trade fair systems in the world, Macfrut is part of that system and we are very proud that they are here in Chile, presenting themselves, because we believe that it is a very important opportunity for Chilean companies in the world of fruit and sustainable agriculture in general. We think that this fair can be a center of promotion not only in Italy, but throughout the world; we appreciate the development of the fruit industry here in this country and we can collaborate a lot because we have a very advanced industry, we both have a Mediterranean climate and there is enormous potential to promote the Mediterranean diet, which is the healthiest there is, fruit, vegetables, a joint dissemination of this dietary pattern scientifically recognized as very healthy,” said the Italian Ambassador to Chile, Mauro Batocchi.
The Macfrut 2023 presentation event was organized by ICE Santiago, led by Alessandra Marcarino, with the support of Fedefruta and Asoex.

“It is very important for us because the European market has been losing its importance in relation to the shipment of Chilean fruit there, therefore everything that means starting and resuming the path of growth that we had a few years ago works for us and is very useful, especially what has to do with Italy where our exports of kiwi, pear, apples are very important, therefore it is a good way to strengthen our export ties with Italy in particular and with Europe in general; the idea is to promote blueberries in the Italian and European markets and cherries, which are the most successful product in Chile today, and the volumes that are being produced are quite large and will continue to grow, therefore it is important to diversify and open the market for this product as well.”, stated the President of Asoex, Iván Marambio.

Jorge Valenzuela, President of Fedefruta, also referred to the important launch of the Italian fruit and vegetable fair in Chile: “This is by far the most important fair for Italian farmers, a fair that is at a very high technological level, so for us it is an honour, a pride that they see us as a reference for fruit and vegetables today at the launch in coordination with the Italian embassy in coordination with Fedefruta.”
The launch, held at the W Hotel in Santiago, was attended by around fifty operators and professional agricultural organizations from our country.

“We have participated on several occasions and last year was a satisfactory experience. We were looking for the latest in irrigation. Climate change and the need to optimize water resources make us always be very attentive to new technologies and I believe that Italy is at the forefront in this area. As a country we have a great opportunity. Agriculture needs to innovate constantly. The fact that Macfut has thought of Chile as a launching country seems to me to be an excellent sign, not only for Chilean producers, but also for our neighbors who are also making significant inroads into the agricultural world.” commented Isabel Vásquez, General Manager of Agrícola Gold Spa.
Macfrut 2023, like the 2022 version, will have “B2B” meetings for those registered, which can be scheduled in advance thanks to the Business Matching program. In addition, it will have an important area dedicated to biosolutions and nurseries and varietal innovation where there will be technical seminars, conferences and workshops. In addition, attendees will be able to tour the pavilion dedicated to agricultural technology, where the latest advances in precision agriculture will be exhibited.
