The webinar “Building profitability in a challenging scenario” was a great success

More than 400 people connected to the interesting webinar that Bioamérica held last Wednesday, May 4. Carlos Tapia, a specialist advisor in cherry production and Technical Director of Avium, and Alejandra Espinoza, head of R&D at Bioamérica, participated as guest panelists.

One of the topics addressed by Alejandra Espinoza was the Erger production tool, a cutting-edge biopromoter, a biostimulant that promotes sprouting, is harmless and environmentally friendly; an important production tool for the industry, capable of delivering yield and quality to producers.

«As a company, we have probably been working with Erger as a technical tool for 12 years and during all these years we have provided technical and scientific support for everything related to the application of Erger. The production yields have shown in different climatic and productive conditions, variety-rootstock combinations, that the results we can achieve from the application of Erger have to do with an increase in production and with improvements in terms of quality,» Espinoza explained.

The specialists also addressed technical management issues and commercial scenarios for the current season, marked by a series of complex aspects, including mainly logistics problems that caused serious delays in customs clearance, and, consequently, deterioration in the quality of the fruit and lower prices.

Carlos Tapia, for his part, carried out a detailed analysis of the recent cherry season and provided a technical overview of how to face the next campaign, from a commercial and technical point of view.

Although the cherries that arrived before the Chinese New Year to the Asian giant, the main market for Chilean cherries, had good returns, a significant amount of fruit was left to be marketed after this holiday, when prices normally drop. However, in the recent season there was also the control of viruses and the situation of the Covid-19 pandemic, all elements that generated a highly complex campaign, especially considering that China continued to be the main market for Chilean cherry exports.

In terms of the amount exported in the recent campaign, Chile sent more than 356,385 thousand tons of cherries abroad, which once again positioned our country as the main exporter of cherries in the world. 92.5 percent of the total was sent to China and Hong Kong.
