Third session of Smartcherry Open addressed the water crisis and the efficient use of irrigation

The successful event led by the Specialist Advisor in Cherry Production, Carlos Tapia, once again had a high turnout, with nearly 300 people connected.

«Climate change: Water crisis and efficient irrigation management with a futuristic perspective» was the title of the third session of the Smartcherry Open discussion series. On this occasion, Carlos Tapia, host of the event, spoke with the professor and researcher, Agroclimatologist from the University of Talca, Patricio González.

«A very relevant topic, a very important topic, which sometimes we overlook in cherry cultivation; it is important to understand the basis of what agroclimatology is and the permanent problem. Climate change is a reality and we have to adapt, most likely this generation will die with climate change, we have to adapt, adapt crops, management and that is extremely important for fruit and food production in the world. I agree a lot with what Patricio said and we have a very good match from the agroclimatological perspective with that of fruit production, so a very good session», said Carlos Tapia, host of the event.

The third session of Smartcherry Open was broadcast via Zoom, Facebook and hosted on Smartcherry's YouTube channel. The event had 288 people connected.

«I think that it is an extraordinary event that Smartcherry is doing with Carlos Tapia and his entire team, because what is needed to face climate change is precisely this, research, empirical work, field work, the association with universities, because the issue that is coming for fruit growing is complicated from the climatological point of view, heat waves, lack of precipitation, snow, and the only way to face this, as other countries have done, is with technology, knowledge, support and research, which is why this is a very important opportunity to have come to Smartcherry Open to share the knowledge that we have had and hopefully it will be useful to all cherry producers and all fruit growers.», said Patricio González.

The last and fourth session will take place on October 27th and in it Carlos Tapia, host of Smartcherry Open, will talk with the members of the consulting firm Trío Kimün, about post-harvest: «The next session is very relevant and is related to what happens with post-harvest management. We have to find where we can unite fruit production with post-harvest technology. I think we have to be more connected there. Post-harvest does an extraordinarily good job of maintaining the fruit that we deliver from the field. There is no way to improve. So the tips from the specialists, in this case the consultant Trío Kimün, will be a very good session, and it will be the last one, so we look forward to seeing you.», concluded Carlos Tapia.

Registration for the fourth session will open soon.
