Representatives of the cherry industry will meet at the First International Seminar on Primores Cherries in Chile

Experts in different areas of cherry cultivation and trade will meet at the First Seminar on Premium Cherries in Chile, this Thursday, October 6 and Friday, October 7 in Ovalle and virtually through streaming, being the technical-commercial meeting point for this sector that is growing rapidly in the north of the country and particularly in the Limarí valleys.

For the first day, eight speakers will be considered, who will cover topics ranging from experiences in the beginning to the vanguard of crops, and the second day will continue with ten speakers who will share their knowledge in various areas such as marketing and international experiences in the sector, among others.

Thursday, October 6th

The seminar will begin with the presentation of Gamalier Lemus Sepúlveda, Agricultural Engineer, specializing in stone fruit, cherry cultivation, who will present “First Experiences in cherry cultivation in the northern zone”; continuing with the presentation of Karen Sagredo Urra, also an Agricultural Engineer, specializing in fruit growing, integrated fruit production, winter break and floral biology, sharing her experience in “Cherry physiology in early zones”.

Ricardo Miño Astorga is the third speaker, an Agricultural Engineer, specializing in the establishment, management, production and marketing of cherry trees, so he brings us his experience in the talk “Agronomic and financial considerations for the establishment and management of cherry trees in the north”; ending the morning session with Jan Weinreich Schjolberg, General Manager of Delsantek SA, a leading company in protection for fruit fields, who will talk about “Systems for precocity in cherry trees”.

During the afternoon session, Lucas Ferrada Montero, an agricultural engineer and expert in plant nutrition and soil management, will present “Keys to nutritional optimization of cherry trees”; followed by Maximiliano Valdes from the BioGrow Company, a multinational holding company with the vision of contributing to finding answers to the global challenge of food production, who will present “Budbreaker & physiogrow color, new tools for cherry trees”.

Considering the last block of the afternoon the presentations of Gonzalo Ugarte on “Biosolutions at the forefront for cherry trees” from the Adama Company, world leader in crop protection. Concluding the day with José Manuel Donoso, Doctor in Genetics, specialist in genetic improvement in fruit trees, sharing his experience in the “Visit to the Experimental Plot of the INIA-Biofrutales Cherry Genetic Improvement Program” 

Friday, October 7th

The second day of the Seminar begins with the experience on “Irrigation in cherry trees, more complex than applying water” by Arturo Calderón Orellana, agricultural engineer, specialist in fruit growing, and water relations in fruit trees. Continuing with María Paz Rosés, from the company CODA-Agrointegral, specialists in technical advice, on “Biostimulation and integral nutrition for sustainable production.” 

Later, Alan Zamorano Carrasco, Doctor in Forestry and Agricultural Sciences with a specialty in Plant Pathology, will speak about “Plant Pathology beyond Fungi: Viruses and Bacteria in Cherry Trees.” The morning session will end with “Syngenta Solutions - a leading company in science-based agricultural technology - for Cherry Trees,” by the professional Guillermo León.

From the other side of the mountain range, Fernando Güizzo Giudice, Commercial Engineer, will start the afternoon session and will share his “Experience with the early cherry industry in Mendoza, Argentina.” Marcos Mora González, PhD in Economics with a specialty in agricultural economics and agribusiness management, will continue with “The value of producing in the off-season: market spaces for fresh cherries.”

The afternoon seminar brings Miguel Toledo's experience on “Connecting the producer with the market, analysis of the air market 2021-2022” from the ExportaFresh Company. Following with the speaker Fiorella Bonino, from the company Los Andes Beltroad, developers of a bridge between the fruit export business of Chile and China, with the story, “China: experiences, customs and the real value of cherries”.

The speaker, Maribel Ortiz, concluded with her experience in “PROCHILE and its role in supporting internationalization”, concluding the First International Seminar on Prime Cherries in Chile, with a discussion with the attendees.
