Last Thursday, September 14, producers of the cherry varieties Nimba cv.; Pacific Red cv., Frisco cv. Sweet Aryana® PA1UNIBO cv. and Sweet Gabriel® PA3UNIBO cv. were invited by ANA Chile® to the 4th EXPOCerezo 2023, where attendees were able to learn about the advances in the technical knowledge of these varieties to achieve the best fruit potential, in addition to sharing their own experiences with the group and clarifying doubts.
On this occasion, the first part of the event was held at the Hotel Santa Cruz, where Andrés Valdivieso, Commercial Manager of ANA Chile, spoke.®, advisor Walter Masman and Lorena Pinto, head of the company's cherry product.
Andrés Valdivieso's presentation focused on the analysis of the past 2022/23 season, and the commercial development and projection of varieties managed by ANA Chile®, where according to the surface area reserved for planting so far (which amounts to 4200 ha), the projected long-term production of these new early varieties could reach around 10 MM boxes (5 kg Eqv.).
For her part, Lorena Pinto – Head of Product for Pomegranates & Cherries at ANA Chile®– presented a proposal for the technological package suggested to achieve the best fruit potential from these varieties. Pinto took the opportunity to comment on what was observed about these varieties during the recent 'Early Cherry Tour' in Spain, organized by ANA Chile.®.
For his part, advisor Walter Masman discussed in depth the experiences with new varieties in early areas; the main problems that the lack of cold has presented during the current season and finally, the management to obtain the best possible fruit this debut season, in order to obtain fruit that generates a favorable reception by consumers.
One of the highlights of the day was the presentation of production recommendations aimed at producers and exporters of the new varieties. Nimba cv. and Sweet Aryana® PA1UNIBO cv. The dissemination of this knowledge gathered by the ANA Chile® team together with leading national experts in the field, aims to align the visions of producers to have a consistent product and guarantee a solid productive debut for these two varieties in the current season, allowing them to position themselves well in the international market, showing their excellent characteristics.
The second part of the day was held at the Macaya and Waak Ltda. premises, in El Huique, Colchagua, VI Region. The producers observed the Sweet Aryana variety in the field.® PA1UNIBO cv. established in Colt (2020), to continue with the varieties Nimba cv., Pacific Red cv. and Sweet Gabriel® PA3UNIBO cv., established in 2021 on the same rootstock.
It was confirmed that this season the first, most representative production of these varieties could be seen in this field and Walter Masman explained the management carried out in the orchard visited, in addition to clearing up doubts of the attendees regarding these new varieties.
