The most international Macfrut of all time started today

From today until 10 May 2024, the entire global fresh produce chain will be at the Expo Center in Rimini, with 1,400 exhibitors (40% foreign exhibitors), 1,500 major buyers, themed exhibitions, a hundred events and a double testing ground.

Macfrut 2024, The international showcase of the fresh produce supply chain, starts today in the Expo Center of Rimini and, until May 10th , will offer professionals the proposals of 1,400 exhibitors from around the world representing the entire supply chain. , themed rooms , a hundred events on industry trends and trends, and a Double test field of about 3,000 square meters on fruit and vegetable innovation.

Renzo Piraccini, president of Macfrut , opened the day. “Today we are inaugurating a record edition, the only one that brings together the entire chain of the sector. We are a fair that, in addition to business, adds knowledge, so much so that if you want to know the future of fruit and vegetables, you must come to Macfrut. It is this format that makes us unique and differentiates us in the global panorama of events in the sector.”

The foreign presence is strong, with 40 percent of foreign exhibitors , which makes Macfrut the most international agri-food event in Italy, which is joined by 1,500 top-level buyers thanks to the fundamental support of ITA – Italian Trade Agency. The international partner area is the Arabian Peninsula , present with nearly a hundred buyers, while the partner region is Apulia, with its excellent productions, starting with table grape , a symbolic product of the 41st edition of the fair. The protagonist of the three-day event is fruits and vegetables , a central sector of Italian agribusiness. Exports of fresh and canned fruit and vegetables in 2023 reached €11.6 billion, of which €5.7 billion came from fresh produce. In total, 300,000 farms are involved in Italy, covering 1.3 million hectares and producing around 24 million tonnes of fruit and vegetables (source: Ismea).

An international Macfrut

A distinctive feature of this 41st edition of Macfrut is its strong international character, with more than 40 percent of exhibitors coming from four continents . Starting with Africa , participate in the fair 400 exhibitors from 24 countries with many firsts such as Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Morocco, Namibia and Togo. Confirmations with expanded areas include Egypt, Algeria, South Africa, Nigeria, Mozambique and Mali with 37 companies. Another important area is the South American Continent thanks to groups from Chile, Panama and the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Cuba and Argentina. And again the Arabian Peninsula with a hundred buyers from that area with the presence also of Emirates SkyCargo for the business opportunities and logistics center in that area. On the front of new entries we find to India , also present with around 50 large buyers, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Lebanon, Brazil and Argentina, while in the European sphere the presence of 22 wholesalers from the two main markets of Spain (Madrid and Barcelona). Also on the international level, 13 international offices of the AICS (Italian Agency for Cooperation and Development) are present out of the 19 that the agency has around the world.

There is 1,500 main buyers worldwide by product type, technology and supply chain.

Macfrut is characterized by being a content fair on industry trends and trends with specific thematic approaches together with the best experts, researchers and global actors from around the world. Proof of this is table grape , a symbolic product of this 41st edition, in the center of the Macfrut Table Grape Symposium , the World Symposium that attracts top experts and major global players over the three days of the fair to take stock of research, trends, production trends, product innovation and business strategies.

As for the salons, all of them coordinated by a team of experts, we find Biosolutions International Event With around 70 exhibitors, Macfrut is the most important event in Europe for natural products for plant protection, nutrition and biostimulation.

The Plant Nursery area is dedicated to the nursery supply chain, which also houses the International Rootstock Symposium (IRS) , while Spices & Herbs Global Expo is dedicated to spices, herbs and medicinal plants. Pianeta Rosso focuses on the tomato supply chain, Acqua Campus in innovations and technologies for saving water. Among the new additions are: Innovation Hub For Healthy Food , on sustainable processing products and technologies for the production of foods with high nutritional value, and the Agrivoltaic Show on the opportunities offered by photovoltaic energy generation to complement agricultural production.

At the fair there is a double testing ground on an area of approximately 3,000 square metres divided into two pavilions: one dedicated to fruit growing, the other to horticulture and surface, market and industrial mechanisation.
