National Irrigation Commission announces competition rules to support farmers affected by fires

This is a special competition for those whose irrigation works were affected.

“The first, for $4.000 million, is aimed at the replacement of the technical systems in the regions that have been hit hardest by the fires, while the second, for $1.000 million, is focused on rehabilitating the civil works damaged by both the fires and the avalanches that have affected the regions of the Great North,” said the Executive Secretary of the CNR, Wilson Ureta.

The Executive Secretary of the National Irrigation Commission (CNR), Wilson Ureta, highlighted that the bases of the special competitions of the Irrigation Law announced together with the Minister of Agriculture, Esteban Valenzuela, within the framework of the Special Fund for the reconstruction of irrigation infrastructure and economic reactivation, which includes a total of $9,000 million, are now available.

“In accordance with our commitment to farmers affected by forest fires (central-south) and summer rains (Northern Spain), we have developed and published the bases so that they can present their projects to both the Special Technical Contest and the Special Civil Works Contest. The first, for $4.000 million, is aimed at replacing technical systems in the regions that have been hardest hit by the fires, while the second, for $1.000 million, is focused on rehabilitating civil works damaged by both the fires and the avalanches that have affected the regions of the Northern Spain,” expressed the Executive Secretary of the CNR.

Wilson Ureta recalled that “In addition, we will make available to the irrigators of the affected areas around $4,000 million - within the framework of the Irrigation Law - focused on the process of economic reactivation, because we want to not only be present in the emergency but also continue to support them even more strongly in their productive development.”

TECHNIFICATION AND CIVIL WORKS

The Head of the Development Department, Tania Fernández, highlighted that the technical competition “Projects may be submitted for a maximum of UF 600. These may be works to repair and rehabilitate systems damaged by fires, both for projects that have already been subsidized and for others that have not yet received this support through the Irrigation Law.”

“In the case of civil works, in a first group those that have as their purpose the rehabilitation of the channels affected by the hydroclimatic events of February 2023 in the North Grande, either through the use of labor, machinery or other necessary technique for this, may be presented, and in a second group, civil works that have as their purpose the rehabilitation of channels affected by the fires that occurred during January and February of this year in the regions of Maule, Ñuble, Biobío and La Araucanía, considering the use of labor, machinery or other necessary technique for their rehabilitation”, added Tania Fernandez.

In both competitions, projects may be submitted from March 10, 2023 until 11:59 p.m. on March 29, 2023 (end of application), only through the software of Law No. 18,450 available at the link “Electronic Application Law 18,450” on the CNR website. www.cnr.gob.cl (https://ley18450.cnr.gob.cl/ley18450/login).
