The president of the Association of Fruit Exporters of Chile AG (ASOEX), Iván Marambio, said that the sector is evaluating the situation of the fields, processing plants and fruit workers in the areas affected by the fires, and that it is coordinating with the authorities to support the actions that are required.
The helmsman sent his condolences to the families and friends of those who have died, as well as his best wishes for the recovery of those who have been injured in these days.
«The situation in the country is really complex, as nature, our fields, and its people are experiencing the ravages of various fires that are exacerbated by the effects of climate change, such as drought. We stand in solidarity with the families who have lost everything, and especially with those who have lost someone or have been injured. As ASOEX, we have already expressed to the authorities our desire to support», Marambio said.
In that same sense, Canala-Echeverría added that "Given the situation, we are in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture, with the aim of collaborating in all those aspects defined by the authorities. We believe that it is a time to unite and work together for the good of all."
Finally, regarding the situation of the export fruit industry, Iván Marambio pointed out: "So far we have not received information about serious effects on our sector, since, due to their nature and compliance with certain protocols, both plantations and packing plants are located far from forest areas. However, we are on alert and constantly evaluating the situation," hill.
