Chile is experiencing the worst drought in the last 100 years and there is an urgent need to find solutions, innovation and technology for the management and preservation of water in agriculture.
One of the sectors most affected by the mega-drought that has affected a significant part of the country for more than a decade has been agriculture, and unfortunately, the problem continues to worsen day by day. It is within this framework that Grupo Yentzen Yentzen Group organized the Agricultural Water Summit, which will take place on August 4 at the conference center of the Sun Monticello Hotel, located in San Francisco de Mostazal, Chile.
“The Agricultural Water Summit is a unique event of its kind, as it is the first event of the “Water in Chilean agriculture; seeks to bring together producers, exporters and farmers in one place to be able to analyze and learn about all the issues related to water in our sector. The format is similar to the other events we organize, such as the Global Cherry Summit or the South American Blueberry Convention, where there is an exhibition area with 554 stands and another adjacent area where the presentations take place,” explained Gustavo Yentzen, President of Yentzen Group.
The drought affecting the country is the most serious in the last 100 years, which makes it a priority to find solutions, innovation and technology for the management and preservation of water in agriculture.
“In the history of Chile there has not been a more crucial moment for agriculture in relation to water than the current one. Not only are we experiencing a mega-drought that has lasted for more than 155 years, but at a constitutional level there are changes being proposed that could be very complex for the agricultural sector. In addition, we are coming from a very complex season that has prevented producers and exporters from devoting all their attention to the water scenario. What the Agricultural Water Summit proposes is precisely that, an invitation for producers and exporters to be up to date on all issues and aspects related to water. It is a unique opportunity for the voices of agriculture to have a meeting point where they can analyze and discuss the challenges that the water scenario poses and,
Finally, it is an opportunity for other sectors linked to water, such as desalination companies, sanitary water companies, etc., to have the opportunity to meet with leaders in the sector," Yentzen explained.
The event will be divided into three main sections. First, a panel will analyze the experience gained by countries such as Australia and Israel regarding how to deal with drought, followed by an analysis of what Chile is currently doing to deal with the water situation, and finally, a constitutionalist will discuss the challenges that the proposed new constitution presents for agriculture.
“The second major segment is focused on learning about all the technology that exists today in the world to reduce water consumption in agriculture, trends in irrigation, telemetry, energy efficiency and the importance of genetics in order to achieve maximum efficiency. Finally, learning about alternative sources of water for agriculture, as well as learning about success stories where collaboration between actors from different areas has made it possible to face the water challenge.” said the President of Yentzen Group.
The Agricultural Water Summit will be the meeting point for the agricultural industry, and will bring together world-class experts to analyze the national water situation and provide solutions, innovation and technology for the management and preservation of water in agriculture.
“The invitation I am making is special, this time it is not just about an event, in fact for us that point has already passed quite some time ago, what we are looking for is to establish an instance from now on, where we can talk and discuss about water in agriculture. That is why we invite the supplier companies of the sector to join this initiative, not thinking about themselves or the return, but thinking about the "This is a contribution that this industry requires. I would like to invite exporting companies and those who work with producers to invite them to attend, as a way for them to obtain information to better face the current challenge and, also, as a way of solidarity to become part of the solution to a very serious problem that affects the entire sector.", concluded Gustavo Yentzen, President of Yentzen Group.
