Diagnofruit at Expo Agrofuturo Medellín 2023: “Colombia has enormous potential as an exporter of fresh fruit, but there is still a long way to go technically”

Expo AgroFuturo is one of the most important agricultural fairs in Latin America and seeks to promote technology and innovation in the agricultural sector. It rotates between cities in Colombia and the 16th edition was held in the beautiful city of Medellín. On this occasion, more than 400 companies were able to show their products and services. It also provides an important space for research centers and other academic partners such as universities, generating a connection between industry, technology and knowledge.

Chile was one of the countries invited to the fair, with the aim of sharing its knowledge and experience in agriculture. In this way, nearly 10 companies came to the capital of Antioquia to present various technologies, services and products that have made Chile a leading country in the export of fresh fruit.

With the support of ProChile, Laboratorios Diagnofruit was present at the event, bringing all its services and knowledge in the process of exporting fresh fruit. On this occasion, there was a special focus on blueberries and avocado, which also allowed for a talk, in a space created by the event's organization, called AgroTalks, where various agricultural stakeholders present topics focused on agriculture and its sustainability.

“Colombia has enormous potential as an exporter of fresh fruit, but there is still a long technical journey to be made. Selling locally is less of a challenge than exporting. Ensuring a second purchase from the end consumer in a demanding market for Colombian avocados requires the generation of knowledge in pre- and post-harvest and this is achieved through Research, Development and Innovation, aspects that forge the foundational bases of Diagnofruit.” said Hector Garcia, General Manager of Diagnofruit Laboratories.

The event also generated rapprochement with the local idiosyncrasy, “It allowed us to generate contacts, resume conversations with clients, and explore other crops, which are outside the scope of Diagnofruit, but where we can adapt our knowledge and services, such as coffee, palm or cocoa,” comments Dr. Miguel López, Technical Manager of Diagnofruit Laboratories.

Chile fue uno de los países invitados.

Diagnofruit began a path of technological transfer in 2016, installing knowledge in one of the largest flower exporting companies in the Bogotá Savannah; today it already has an established presence in the coffee-producing country and is currently developing research projects with important companies such as Bayer and GHT.
