In the framework of the commemoration of the international day of energy saving and the International Day against Climate Change - which will be celebrated on October 21 and 24 respectively -, the Chilean agtech Wiseconn - specialist in the optimization of water in agricultural fields through technology - called for the conscious and sustainable use of water, a key element in the generation of energy and in the care of the environment.
Energy savings are associated with the correct use of our resources. “In Chile, there are multiple forms of energy generation, and most of them use water in their process. Therefore, efficient use of water contributes significantly to the generation and management of energy, thus helping to ensure a constant flow,” says Vicente Ossa, Marketing Manager at Wiseconn.
He adds that “energy savings by people promote efficiency in energy generation, which has a positive impact on reducing the carbon footprint, decreasing greenhouse gas emissions and minimizing ecological disruption.”
In this sense, “investment and production of alternative energies, such as wind, hydroelectric, tidal, solar, geothermal and biomass, are some of the responses to reduce environmental impact and reduce the use of energy derived from fossil fuels.”
In relation to the fight against climate change, Wiseconn highlights that this problem is affecting – among other aspects – the quality and availability of soil and water, as a result of the development of projects that compete with agricultural land. This can further reduce agricultural productivity.
Under this scenario, the use of current technological tools will be very useful.
“It is clear that we need to use technology to address these challenges. There are already technological solutions that help farmers adapt to climate change.
For example, precision agriculture, which uses data and technological equipment to optimize the use of inputs and increase production efficiency, is becoming increasingly relevant to support farmers in adapting to changing climate conditions,” he stresses.
The company appreciated that many Agrotech and Climatech developments are currently being made that have the potential to transform the way agriculture is done. “These technologies are specifically designed to meet the climate challenges we face and to deal with the effects of climate change on agriculture,” emphasizes Vicente Ossa.
