In a new report by IQonsulting, its founder and CEO, Isabel Quiroz, referred to cherry shipments: «Up to week 5, Chile exported 416 thousand tons, round numbers now, this means 83.2 million boxes, 18 percent more than last year, and this would be the end of the season, in total numbers.»
The specialist also referred to the situation of cherries in the United States: «In week 6 a new slight increase in prices; of USD 4.8 per kilo, and that meant USD 0.2 per kilo more than the previous week, gives us USD 24 per 5 kilo box for this week and we are already finishing and we hope that the price will remain the same for next week when we would be ending».
Regarding Europe, Isabel Quiroz pointed out that there are no longer public prices and that the last arrivals have already ended.
Regarding China, the specialist noted that during week 6: «Last week, prices fell, the average until Friday fell to USD 4.72 per kilo, remember that the previous week it had been USD 8.09 per kilo, therefore week 6 gives a total of USD 23.6 per 5 kilo box., on average of everything that is being sold in the week in which the prices are taken."
However, prices improved once the markets were decongested: «The good news is that between Saturday, Sunday and Monday, prices went up, because last week's low prices cleared the market, because there was tired fruit, with condition problems, and when the market cleared the last three days, until Monday, today (02/13), the market has been seen in better condition, on the rise, therefore we hope that this week and next, despite the fact that the last arrivals come in week 9, we will have a relatively stable market, with very little fruit, therefore we hope that this little fruit will sell well and will sell around USD 30, 36, 38 per 5 kilo box», concluded the Director of IQonsulting.
