For the second consecutive year, the Avium technical team will publish a complete weekly newsletter on our platform with the Phenological Report by area and variety between the regions of O'Higgins and Los Lagos. The document also includes relevant climatic information and the weekly tasks required by cherry orchards.

Carlos Tapia, Technical Director of Avium, highlighted the value of Phenological Report Prepared by the technical team: «Last year, our team and I took on the challenge of preparing a report that would show, week by week, the phenological progress of the main varieties of cherries produced in our country. To this we added comparative reports on rainfall, cold hours, evapotranspiration and degree days, depending on the week, among other information relevant to the cultivation of this species. The document is a true x-ray of the season and represents a great contribution to the cherry industry. This year we already have the first report ready and with it we are starting off this challenging season.»
Monitoring phenology is of great importance for cherry production, as it is essential for each producer to know the particularities of their orchard, taking into account aspects such as variety/rootstock, agro-climatic situation, etc. Emilio Martínez, Head of the R&D Department at Avium, explained the value of this information: «Monitoring phenology is important because it allows for scheduling different tasks, cultural management and applications, whether foliar or soil, at the right time for each particular orchard. We have the challenge as an industry to better understand the behavior of phenological states each season, with the various parameters that are measured, whether degree days or general environmental conditions, in order to provide a much more effective tool to cherry producers.»
Avium's R&D department carries out various investigations related to the subject each season.
«Season after season we see differences in some days, different phenological states and this is fundamentally due to the thermal accumulation that occurs each year, so it is important to understand how the dynamics of accumulation of degree days of each season is; this is essential to be able to adequately and in a timely manner deliver the aforementioned cultural management and certain tasks to the orchards,» Martinez added.

The Phenological Report Tp. 2022-23 will be published every Thursday on our platform and can be accessed through a banner which will be available soon in the home, for free and in simple steps.
