How to advance the cherry harvest to reach the Chinese market on time

ANDThis season brings an early Chinese New Year, which requires early harvesting to reach the main markets of the Asian giant on time and obtain better prices. To achieve a smooth and early harvest, Tavan Chile recommends applying SPRINT, an organic product that homogenizes color and sugar, along with advancing the fruit harvest by 4 to 6 days.

Without a doubt, one of the main challenges of the season will be to bring forward the cherry harvest to reach the Asian market on time, with the Chinese New Year brought forward to January 22. The technical team at Tavan Chile explains what alternatives exist today for this purpose and how SPRINT works, an organic product that allows the harvest to be brought forward by 4 to 6 days.

-How can producers advance the harvest this season?

The most commonly used strategy is the application of dormancy breakers, which are applied in winter to speed up the awakening of the trees. Another tool is the use of covers or roofs, which produce a small advance in the harvests, although they are not within everyone's reach. A more accessible measure, and complementary to these two alternatives, are products that help the acquisition of colour and sugar, both key parameters of the fruit's maturity.

-What does Tavan Chile recommend applying?

As Tavan Chile, we recommend the application of the SPRINT product, a fast-assimilating organic product, which plays two fundamental roles in having a fluid and early harvest: first, homogenizing color and sugar, and then advancing the fruit harvest date.

-How does the treatment work and how is it different from other products?

This treatment acts systemically, functioning as an enzymatic catalyst, which accelerates the Krebs cycle, where the metabolic pathways for the acquisition of color and sugars in the fruit are involved.

Unlike other products of this type, SPRINT does not overripe the fruit and carries anthocyanins (pigments) and sugars at the same time. On the other hand, it has a systemic action, which allows the product to have an effect on all the fruits that are part of the plant. At the same time, it is very fast-acting, with the first effects being seen from the third day after application, depending on the physiological state of the fruit.

-What other benefits does a producer get from applying Sprint?

Along with homogenizing the harvest, which leads to lower labor costs, and advancing the harvest to reach the Chinese market early, it is key to not lose the size or condition of the fruit. To achieve this, the product contains macro and micro nutrients formulated with cutting-edge technology, which are a key contribution to not losing size and to obtaining optimal fruit condition.

Another benefit of applying SPRINT is that it can be used as a strategy to stagger or schedule harvests. For example, if I have many hectares of the same variety, I can advance certain plots while waiting for the others to mature. This way, the harvest does not come all at once.
