Chinese ambassador visited the commune of Sagrada Familia and highlighted the export qualities of the area

The commune of Sagrada Familia, belonging to the province of Curicó, Maule region, has made news for its significant production of cherries; in addition, a fact has been added, since in November of last year a fruit grower in the area produced what he claims is the largest cherry in the world, of the Frisco variety and weighing 24.21 grams, slightly higher than the Guinness Record that was harvested in Chile Chico in 2019 and which yielded 23.92 grams.

It was precisely this commune that was visited by the Chinese Ambassador to Chile, Niu Qingbao, accompanied by local authorities, including the mayor of Sagrada Familia, Martín Arriagada, the Presidential Delegate of the province of Curicó, Leopoldo Ibáñez, as well as the Seremi of Agriculture Luis Verdejo.

Niu Qingbao, Chinese Ambassador to our country, said “I see that the Maule and Sagrada Familia region has landscapes that are very rich in agricultural production”; He added that this plays a role “It is very important for imports, especially cherries, and for this reason the Chinese embassy in Chile is willing to do everything possible to (continue) promoting exports.”

The visit by the Chinese authority was part of the symbolic start of the cherry harvest season, recalling that 90 percent of the production of this Chilean fruit is exported to that world economic power.

The mayor of the commune, Martín Arriagada, highlighted the visit of the authority, stating that this “It allows us to strengthen commercial ties with our commune and to plan other twinning arrangements, for example with some province of that great country, which would mean more exports, more jobs for our commune, and not only in cherries, but also in other Sagrada Familia products, such as wine, grapes, olive oil, among others.”

22 million boxes of cherries are exported from the region every year, most of which are destined for China.

“90 percent goes to China, and that is why the Ambassador's visit is very important to continue strengthening ties, not only in agriculture, but in different sectors and companies in which China is reaching our country.”, concluded the Seremi of Agriculture, Luis Verdejo, regarding the visit of the Chinese diplomat.
