The FirmPro Colorimeter: the technology that seeks to optimize the quality evaluation process of cherries

The Chilean company HappyAgro, with more than 12 years of experience in the development of technological products, implemented a product that optimizes the cherry evaluation process.

The Colorimeter, developed by HappyAgro, is a complement to the company's main instrument, the FirmPro. This product allows the color of each fruit in the sample to be captured and is composed of a mini photo studio and image processing software, intended primarily for cherries.

Likewise, all captured images are recorded so that the user can review the history of the fruits that passed through the machine, obtaining a digital counter sample.

According to HappyAgro founder and CEO Robinson Gálvez, “The FirmPro Colorimeter was designed with the goal of providing an increasingly complete solution to the industry. Now, our clients will not only measure the size and firmness, but also the individual color of each fruit, objectively obtaining the main characteristics in the evaluation of cherry quality.”

The current version only allows measuring cherries, but HappyAgro is working on incorporating the measurement of color and percentage of coverage of D'Agen plums and other small fruits. Along these lines, Robinson Gálvez added that "it is essential for us to be constantly updating our products and providing an excellent service for our clients, which translates into listening to their needs and us offering them solutions, so that they can obtain the perfect fruit for their clients. In this sense, the color measurement system has been improving over time, and these improvements have been passed on to clients as software updates included in the maintenance service."

The Colorimeter is already highly valued in the fruit industry; HappyAgro has sold 69 units to 34 Chilean companies, both producers and exporters, as well as quality control service providers.

Aurora Australis Quality Assurance Manager Gianinna Salazar said they acquired the colorimeters “mainly to minimize errors, increase the sample and achieve results in the shortest time possible” and added that it “allows them to make label segregation decisions based on color.”

HappyAgro and its fruit technology are revolutionizing the industry. The Chilean company continues to expand its horizons and today already has 127 clients in Chile, Peru, Colombia, Mexico, the United States, Spain, the Netherlands, Estonia and China.

Aurora Australis highlights the training and after-sales services: “Every year, staff is trained in software updates and the equipment is fully calibrated. During the season, the HappyAgro team is always available to answer questions and make remote repairs in the event of errors or user problems. Their after-sales service has given us the peace of mind to continue trusting their equipment and, in terms of the ability to react in time when we have had problems during the season, they have undoubtedly been an important partner for us in obtaining better results.”
