This is how the first maritime shipment of cherries arrived in Hong Kong

Learn the details.

As planned, the Cautín vessel, the first Cherry Express of the season, arrived at the port of Hong Kong on Sunday, December 10. It set sail from the TPS in Valparaíso on November 17 with approximately 110 containers of cherries on board. During the first day, approximately 20 containers were released and quickly transported to Jiangnan Market, the market in Guangzhou.

As usual, the arrival of the first pallets of cherries generated great excitement in the market; the first boxes of cherries transported by sea to the Asian giant were received and opened with a large turnout of people.

The main variety present in the markets is Santina in 2.5 and 5 kg formats. As for prices, these were very similar to those paid for air arrivals.

«At first, most buyers were just watching and taking part in the excitement that came with the arrival of these first containers of cherries to the Guangzhou market. Buyers were cautious and waited for prices to come down and stabilize before buying. They looked for problems in the fruit so they could stabilize prices, commenting on sensitive fruit, soft fruit, pitting, splitting and some rot."said Agustín Cornejo, General Manager of QCFruit, who also added: "As prices stabilized, more and more people began to buy.".
