On the night of December 9, the Wan Hai 517 ship arrived at the port of Shanghai; on board was a container of Santina cherries, exported by XSUR, which became the first to arrive by sea to the Asian giant.
The shipment was quickly cleared and arrived at Huizhan Market, where it was sold in its entirety; the prices and quality were quite similar to those of the last air-shipped cherry arrivals. The 5kg boxes were priced at RMB 520/USD 75.48.
The same ship also included half a container of cherries belonging to another exporter; the fruit was destined for specific markets within China.
Although this was the first shipment of cherries by sea, the ship Cautín, the first Cherry Express of the season, is expected to arrive in Hong Kong this Sunday, carrying approximately 110 containers of cherries.
Smartcherry will offer comprehensive coverage of this important milestone of the 2023-24 campaign through its different platforms and, in addition, in the return of its successful Smartcherry en Destino section, which includes weekly reports on arrivals, prices and quality of the fruit.
