Juan José Donoso joins as a new columnist for Smartcherry

His podcast channel will also be launched soon, where he will share different data and tips about the applications and machinery for this important task.

Smartcherry continues to grow and this time it does so with the help of a new columnist; Juan José Donoso, an agricultural engineer from Universidad Mayor, technical director of Drops consultants, dedicated to the area of pesticides and applications. He comes to Smartcherry with the purpose of sharing his knowledge through notes and his own podcast channel, which will be launched soon.

In an interview with Smartcherry, Donoso explains how he came to the field of pesticides and applications and what questions led him to venture further.

“I entered the applicator course and I began to question whether we were doing the treatments right. We don’t have fruit rejection, we don’t have major problems with pests and diseases, but I began to realize how we do things. That in other parts of the world things are already done differently and that’s where I started to get into applications. First of all, quality, efficiency, sustainability and sustainability.”, the agronomist initially indicated.

Juan José Donoso also referred to the main problems that arise around machinery and applications: “I started traveling around Chile and realized that the quality of the machines, the maintenance and the importance given to the machinery and the applications were very few, very vague. What makes the money, which for me is the spraying machine and the equipment in general, is given very little importance, on the other hand, when it is an expense like a truck, or the maintenance, which is never done to the tractor or the equipment, but the truck reaches 10 thousand km and straight away. So, those are the things that start to bother me.”.

On the other hand, Donoso also had words to refer to where he is currently, arguing that, “Personally, as an advisor, I have support programs for producers, where we start with a pre-check of the machine, so that the season starts well, in addition to accompanying with regular visits to observe that the characteristics of the machinery are maintained and to determine the application volumes and parameters. Quality, water, pressures, fans and everything that entails correct coverage.”

Finally, the agricultural engineer spoke about his expectations as a columnist on his podcast channel on Smartcherry.cl.

“I hope that we can provide different tips on the podcast channel. It is good to provide small pieces of information, so that the producers themselves and all interested people can obtain information or points for improvement. It also generates debate, because one is not knowledgeable about everything.”, concluded Juan José Donoso.
